Sand getting whipped up off the dunes of the Liwa Desert.
I had climbed up this enormous dune after the sun went down and sat on the sand for a while on my own just soaking up the peace and quiet of the desert. Looking in this direction there’s nothing but sand and a couple of roads to cross the whole 500 miles to Riyadh.
As I sat there a breeze started, and soon the beginnings of a sandstorm. I quickly retreated, being sandblasted all the way. Sand was everywhere, so much had made it’s way into my pockets that my lens cap ground a circle into the screen of my phone!

Travelling from Chamonix to Zermatt the road crosses from France into Switzerland and climbs to here at the Col de la Forclaz (1,527m) before dropping back down over 1,000m of steep switchbacks to Martigny on the floor of the Rhône valley.

I posted a version of this photo with me in it some time ago but this one with Lindsay is better I think, the stars are more defined and the mountains in the distance stand out.
She’s shining my Surefire Fury into the night across Loch Awe from the gardens of the Ardanaiseig Hotel. It was beautifully dark, this image took 30 seconds at ISO800.
