While kind of on the subject of taking photos out of hotel room windows, this is the sort of weird things that happen when you stick a polariser on your camera and try shooting through the thick, treated glass they use in hot countries. A friend of mine did some reading up on it and the polarised light that is reflected off the water or other windows can potentially show up stresses in the glass of the window you’re shooting through, or something like that hehe.
If you’re remotely interested these were shot from the Mandarin Oriental in Kuala Lumpur.
Approaching midnight on the eve of Merdeka, crowds start to form in KLCC park for a big fireworks display. Merdeka celebrates Malaysia’s independence from the British. This was 2007 so the next day would mark the 50 year anniversary.
We only found all this out when we arrived and realised we had to get to the airport that day! Thankfully we had a really early flight and left in a taxi about 6 in the morning, as the entire area around KLCC and the Petronas Towers got closed off just after that. Prince Andrew and Heads of State were staying in our hotel so the whole place got locked down with security, bit of a shock when we came back from dinner!
